Description
Being offered for your consideration isthis only existing Original 1915 Re-issue of the First Charter of the Grand Lodge of the Brotherhood of Locomotive Firemen and Enginemen for the founding of the initial lodge in Richmond Virginia, Lodge # 497. This historical document was re-issued in 1915 as the original charter paperwork was lost in a fire (see note at bottom of document) and this is the one and only original reissue for the lodge. It is still in its antique frame and glass and is dated 1915. It has the original impressed gold seal on the lower left (shown in images). Beautiful engravings showing an early locomotive, flag, with bold calligraphy. It is in remarkable condition with virtually no damage with some minor edge fraying and a tiny hole at the edge top right in the images and some water staining at the bottom (see images). The original members names are penned in ink and it is signed by the General Secretary of the union at that time. At the very bottom is a penned note in ink that references the original lodges destruction by fire, and a new lodge certificate was issued in April 15, 1915. Measuring

by
16 1/4"it is framed in its original period frame which is in very nice condition with some minor chipping and repairs. It measures 24" x 19" and has been in storage for many years in the collection of a local estate. One of the earliest unions in the nations history and it was established in 1873. After many years,
in 1969
it merged with what is known today as the United Transportation Union . This is the only example I have been able to locate after many hours of research and perhaps is a one of a kind piece and would be the centerpiece of any collection or museum of fraternal organizations or union historical memorabilia. Name of previous owner will be given at request from buyer.
